Gearing up for a busy 2024: Morrison quietly making moves

2023 was a year of rebuilding and growing for Joe Morrison and he is determined to spend more time on the race track in 2024. "I was only on track 3 times last year," Joe remarked; "I haven't sat on the sidelines that much since my friend and race partner Mike Gillespie passed away in 2008." While Joe was not spending time behind the wheel much last year, he has been silently building toward 2024 and beyond.

"I'm really excited about this season and it sure feels like there is some momentum building." Joe stated optimistically. "There are plans in place to bring my Fiat Altered back out with a supercharged alcohol combination, I will be back behind the wheel of Dennis Champney's Hell Bound Funny Car, and I'm finalizing plans to make my NHRA Nitro Funny Car debut a bit later this season."

The Fiat is already booked in for the Island Dragway Anniversary Race and Funny Car Throwdown in August. Morrison and friend Mike McCormick plan to run a handful of match races as well as NHRA Division 1 Top Dragster events; and likely a few National Events, too. "I have made so many runs in that car that I can't even count them. With this new combination, it will be interesting to see how it feels and what it takes to get it figured out."

Joe will also be behind the wheel of the Hell Bound Dodge Avenger bodied funny car of Dennis Champney. Joe and Dennis teamed up to run the Funny Car Chaos event at Maryland International Raceway this past August. The qualified 5th overall and made it to the semifinals before bowing out. "I'm excited to drive Dennis' car again! We had a great time at Chaos, and our first race of 2024 will be Easter Sunday at Summerduck Dragway in Virginia."

After finishing his crossover license in Paul Smith's "Entertainer" nitro funny car, Joe was looking to make his debut at Maple Grove Raceway for the NHRA event but ran out of time. Due to a few delays in getting my license, we did not have enough time to put enough sponsorship dollars to make it happen. I decided that it was better to look at the "big picture" and start building for the future.

Announcements will be coming soon, but in the meantime there will be plenty of racing going on.
