Joe Morrison to Make IHRA Outlaw Funny Car Debut with Herzhauser Racing
Flemington, NJ – It’ll be a “Jersey thing” as Flemington’s Nitro Joe Morrison is set to make his IHRA Outlaw Nitro Series debut behind the wheel of the Atlantic Highlands-based Herzhauser Racing Funny Car September 24th through 27th, contested at Dragway 42 in West Salem, Ohio.
Morrison, who recently received his IHRA license credentials in Top Fuel, Nitro Funny Car, Top Alcohol Dragster, and Top Alcohol Funny Car, respectively, is looking forward to experiencing his first IHRA Outlaw Nitro Series event.
“I’m extremely thankful to be asked to fill in as the driver of the Herzhauser Racing Nitro Funny Car,” noted Morrison, who has been driving Paul Smith’s Nitro Funny Car for the past two years. “I’ve developed an exceptional relationship with Paul and his team, and I am happy to have his blessings and support with this opportunity with the Herzhauser Racing team.”
Morrison brings a diverse driving resume to the IHRA Outlaw Nitro Series. Currently licensed in 11 different categories, having raced in Top Fuel, Nitro Funny Car, and Top Alcohol Dragster in the past three years at the National Event level. He has also competed in multiple Funny Car Chaos events and nostalgia drag racing races since 2007.
Outside of the drag strip, Morrison serves as the CEO and co-founder of Right2Breathe™, a 501 (c)(3) non-profit organization based in New Jersey, created by two passionate Drag Racers who have a personal mission to improve the quality of life for those who live with respiratory difficulty.
Morrison continued, “IHRA has done an amazing job rejuvenating this historic sanctioning body. These Outlaw Nitro Series events continue to grow, both in professional team participation and fan attendance. The Herzhauser Racing team has likewise continued to improve with each race they attend, so I’m looking forward to competing at one of our most legendary racetracks, Dragway 42.”
The IHRA Outlaw Nitro Series is contested in an eight-car field, with two qualifying sessions on Friday, September 26th. Final eliminations will be held on Saturday, September 27th.
